I think three was harder than two, and now it's getting easier and harder. Easier because Benjamin can understand choices and consequences and harder because he also wants to assert his independence constantly. I laughed when I read about William peeing off the side of the bed. Benjamin used to take off his diaper in his crib and use his toys for target practice. It was his way of sticking it to me when he didn't want to take a nap. I finally wised up and put him in onsies at nap time. But honestly, I think the work and sacrifice only strengthen the bonds we have with our kids. I truly believe deeper love comes from work and sacrifice. Our kids teach us how to forget ourselves.

As you are probably fully aware, he's not joking...parenting is a wild ride. Just when you think you've got a handle on things, your kids go and change all the rules. We'll come out as better people in the end; at least that's what I keep telling myself.

I know what you mean about Cruella's cigarette. Disney probably thinks that it is okay because it is clear that this is bad behavior from a bad people.

I don't know, Dan, I might have to disagree with you on the new versus old Disney debate. The new ones may have adult humor, but it completely goes over their heads. The old ones have blatant displays of inappropriate behavior. Like in Pinocchio they have those boys on the island smoking and gambling, among other things, and even in 101 Dalmations, Cruella sucks on that cigarette of hers all day long and blows smoke in people's faces. Anyway, just my opinion. It sounds like your a much better parent than me. If my kids ask to watch a movie, I'm like, "Yes! Free time for me. Please go kill your brain cells so that I can relax." LOL

My husband and I got engaged in San Francisco. I still remember how happy I felt as I was sitting on a wall in Saucelido looking out over the bay. He had just finished a grueling 8 hour interview for the Foreign Service, and I had spent the day roaming the city with my future in-laws, but after it all we had some time alone, and the memory of the sights, sounds, and feeling of the fresh sea air as we sat together contemplating our future life will always stay with me. It makes me want to go back right now!

Excellent musing on the crossroads of memory and place. It's amazing how powerful nostalgia can be. After spending a lot of time in Berkeley myself, I wonder I would react in a similar scenario. Well done.
